HOURS Mode in Overture
The original stage order, no Tempos, and the Resident Mind badges for Vestige and Subject.
HOURS mode is Overture’s recreation of the original HOURS run: a sequence of fields, five-enemy stretches, and named bosses that ends at Light Beneath Closed Eyes. You vote it on the same online 25-player servers as Erlking and Cazerdus. You can walk the route alone, but you are still in a multiplayer instance.
This is the classroom mode. Erlking is a spectacle exam. Cazerdus is a patience exam. HOURS mode is where you learn that Overture is not HOURS with a coat of paint. There are no Tempos. No Halt, no Star, no time skip when Equinox starts a tornado. You have regenerating health, a stamina bar, and the same dash everyone else fights about (hold W, then Q). If that dash is still going left, open the controls guide before you blame Bloxxerman.
The developers still want you to support the original HOURS creator. Play this mode as a remix, then go buy the original’s gamepasses if you care about the source.
Stage order and the four bosses
Public Invader solos in Overture use the classic order. Names can vary with stage palettes (Peacock Peaks / Starling Stacks / Heron Heights, and so on), but the bosses do not.
Equinox, Eternal Guardian of Dusk — first field, dual swords (Illumina / Darkheart language), dashes, roll slashes, acrobatics, and a slam that applies a glowing damage-taken debuff in the original ruleset. Circle-strafe. Punish recoveries, not startups. Equinox is also an early host in Overture footage; fighting the boss is how you learn that kit from the other side. Do not stand in the tornado because you miss Halt.
Bloxxerman, Builder of the Realm — second field, nails, shockwaves, a last-stand leap with tripwires and a shield in the HOURS version. Stay off the spawn pound. Bloxxer the host is the echo of this boss; if you already have that pick, this stage is a mirror match in slow motion. Ping plus nail travel time is how people die to a projectile they thought they sidestepped.
Ronin Alpha, The First Drifter — third field (Mirai Mirror and night variants), katana plus Goliath Omega. This is the parry boss. If you swing into a ready blade you get staggered and dashed on. Attack when Ronin is already swinging, then leave. Community HOURS-mode videos often label this chapter Drifter because the boss is the First Drifter; the playable Drifter is a different unlock (Timeless wave 20 deathless by consensus, not this kill).
Resident Mind at Light Beneath Closed Eyes — the finale. HOURS structure is a clone-of-you beat without a Tempo, then the white entity: fast, tanky, orbs, pillars, lasers, a piano-slam style closer depending on phase. Overture keeps the “final-style” identity. You still cannot Undo the clone. Play the same endlag rule you used on Erlking: wait, hit, leave, regen. Any difficulty clear of Resident Mind unlocks Vestige. Hard also unlocks Subject. That is Overture badge text, not the HOURS Seconds / Minutes chart. Details: class unlock guide. Kit: Vestige.
Between bosses you still get the stage trash: SFOTH-themed openers, clan-themed second field, catalog-item third field. They are there to tax stamina. Do not dump the bar on trash and enter Equinox empty.
How to run it in Overture’s rules
Pick Invader for a first clear if you want the video path: glue to endlags, short strings, dash out. Witness and Prophet are fine if they are on your early roster and you prefer range or heavy reads. Equinox and Hot Rash show up as early hosts in Overture; they are not required. Redcliff is an Erlking trophy — bring it if you already have it and like clash timing, not as a HOURS-mode crutch.
Difficulty names in HOURS (Weeks, Minutes, Hours, Seconds) may still appear as a selector. For Vestige you only need any Resident Mind kill. For Subject you need Hard (Overture’s word). Do not assume Seconds-on-mobile still maps. If the UI says Hard, that is the Subject run.
Ping is worse here than people expect because the mode looks like HOURS. In HOURS a Tempo hid a lot of latency. Here a late Invader dash slash is just a late dash slash. Play later in animations on a bad server. The getting started guide covers that habit.
You can share the run with a full lobby. Extra damage melts Equinox. Extra people also pull Ronin parries onto whoever swung first. If the instance is a circus, take another server — this is online multiplayer.
HOURS-mode is also where people go hunting old secret host routes (heal Equinox in the dark tornado, trip every last-stand wire, and so on). Those are HOURS facts. Overture’s published ladder is Erlking → Redcliff, Resident Mind → Vestige / Subject, Cazerdus → Epikninja, Timeless 20 deathless → Drifter. If a secret still works, treat it as a bonus, not as the wiki’s promise.
No codes skip stages. Codes has no public working list. Discord and Trello: links hub. Scripts will not parry Ronin for you.
After Vestige is yours, take the range kit into Erlking or Cazerdus only if you can actually aim under ping. Otherwise stay in melee windows. Rank hosts on the class tier list and bosses on the boss tier list. Then either farm Timeless for Drifter or return to the guides hub. The players hub holds Invader, Bloxxer, Vestige, and the rest of the documented kits. Patch changes to this recreation belong on updates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Codes, class unlocks, modes, and raid questions in short form.
Is HOURS mode the original HOURS game?
It is Overture's recreation of the original stage order and bosses, running on Overture rules: no Tempos, regenerating health, stamina, online 25-player servers. The developers still point you at the original HOURS experience.
What bosses are in HOURS mode?
Equinox, Bloxxerman, Ronin Alpha (the First Drifter), then Resident Mind in Light Beneath Closed Eyes. Compare them on the boss tier list.
How do I unlock Vestige from this mode?
Beat Resident Mind on any difficulty. Hard also unlocks Subject. See the class unlock guide and the Vestige page.
Does killing Ronin Alpha unlock Drifter?
Why is this harder than HOURS if I already know the bosses?
You do not have Tempos, and ping affects hitboxes. Regen helps you retry a string; it does not skip a tornado or a piano slam.
