Overture Clash and Parry
Coffin clashes, auto-parry traps, and the red slash you should never try to steel.
Overture dropped Tempos and kept a steel conversation: parry as a timing verb, clash as a committed answer to a named boss button, and stamina as the tax on both. If you came from HOURS, Halt is gone. You do not freeze the string. You either step, steel, or die, then let HP regen while the bar comes back.
This page is the missing mechanic sheet for Erlking and every other raid that borrowed the same verbs. Pair it with controls (hold W, then Q for a forward dash) before you practice in a 25-player public lobby.
Parry is not a hold-block
Parry is a timed steel. You spend it. You miss, you eat the hit. You panic-parry a jab you could have walked around, you have nothing left for the real threat. That is why some players call Drifter auto-parry a curse: the kit steels easy base attacks for you, burns the resource, then leaves you naked for the red slash.
What auto-parry covers (community consensus on Drifter):
- Direct / base melee from Erlking and Cazerdus.
- Cazerdus red shuriken throw and base attack (Puur Wrld notes). Not the rest of the kit.
What it does not cover:
- Ranged slashes, AoE, Erlking’s red slash, coffin extras, most shockwaves.
- Anything you would describe as a cutscene or a screen-wide.
Manual parry still exists on other hosts. Showcase comments say some Erlking extras (ground slam, spikes, red tornado shockwave, maybe coffin bash) can be manually parried if you live in his hip. That is a high-level Drifter or Redcliff habit, not a first-hour plan. Learn it in the rest field, not on a Normal badge attempt.
Stamina empty mid-string is a wipe even though health is ticking up. Regen is a retry between strings. See getting started.
Clash: three charges into the coffin
Erlking’s coffin bash / stun is the named clash. Community and Trello notes (ScarletHeaths) plus review comments agree on the loop:
- Build three charges on M2.
- Fire that M2 as the coffin stun comes out.
- You either win the clash or lose it.
- The same idea can be aimed at the cutscene coffin. You are almost guaranteed to lose that one unless Erlking is already under about 1000 HP.
Older guide footage said you could only clash once per game. That is false. Trello and later comments: you can punish coffin bash multiple times in one raid if he keeps using it. Do not save the three-charge forever. Spend it when the coffin is real.
A related trick: three-charge bash into Requiem can also clash, with a reported 100 HP tax even on a “win.” Treat that as a high-risk line, not a default.
Redcliff is the host that makes this conversation feel like the kit. You unlock Redcliff by beating Erlking on Normal — which is the cruel joke. First clear: Invader, Witness, or Prophet and a group. Second clear: bring the knight back and clash on purpose.
What you should never steel
- Erlking red ranged slash. Community one-shot reports. Auto-parry does not eat it. Walk it or die.
- Percent Max-HP chips. Erlking resists % damage (halved). Storm-style chips that read 2.5% of a fake Max HP bar are a Trello warning, not a carry plan.
- Cazerdus non-base buttons. Longer endlag, fewer windows. Auto-parry still only covers the easy ones. Beat Cazerdus.
- Ping. Hitboxes are server-owned. A parry that looks early on 180 ms is already late. Play later in the animation.
Practice order
- Forward dash on command — controls.
- Manual parry on trash in HOURS mode before you touch Erlking Normal.
- Group beat Erlking without hunting a clash. Sheathe endlag is enough for a first Redcliff.
- After Redcliff, lab three-charge M2 in a quiet server. Then use it on coffin, not on jabs.
- Only then take Drifter auto-parry into the same raid and notice how fast the resource disappears.
Donation ClassDen lets you feel the other side of the coffin. That is a store menu, not a mechanic unlock — donation menu. Resident Mind does not use this clash; do not look for a coffin there.
Updates if a universe bump retunes charge counts. Links for Trello when two videos disagree. Scripts will not time a parry for you; they will get you kicked.
Frequently Asked Questions
Codes, class unlocks, modes, and raid questions in short form.
How do I clash Erlking's coffin in Overture?
Build three M2 charges and fire as the coffin stun comes out. You can clash more than once per raid. The cutscene coffin is a losing trade unless he is very low HP. Details on beat Erlking.
Does Drifter auto-parry everything?
No. Base melee and some Cazerdus shurikens. Not ranged, AoE, or Erlking's red slash. See Drifter.
Can I only clash once per game?
No. That older claim is wrong. You can punish coffin bash multiple times if he keeps using it.
Which class is best for clashing?
Does Overture have HOURS Tempos that auto-parry for me?
No Tempos. Stamina and regen only. Anyone selling Halt is describing HOURS or a script.
